Places you can’t miss if you visit Valencia

Valencia is known worldwide for its festivals , the Fallas, declared a World Heritage Site last year. However, centuries of history and culture make this city a must-see place to lose yourself in its streets for days.

If you’re on vacation and have decided to spend a few days in the capital of the Turia River, you can’t miss these four places to make your trip a true dream. Take note!

What to visit in Valencia

  • Old City

From Colón Street to the banks of the Turia River, the wall that surrounded the city of Valencia rose in the 14th century. Today, it is the historical, political, and cultural center of the capital, where tradition permeates every corner of its streets. In Ciutat Vella, we find unmissable monuments such as Valencia Cathedral and its Plaza de la Almoína, the Central Market and its fresh fruit, the Quart and Serranos Towers—former city gates—the Silk Exchange, the Palau de la Generalitat, the Palace of the Marquis of Dos Aguas, and the Plaza Róba, a place of worship for collectors.

This neighborhood has also become a cultural hub for urban expression thanks to its graffiti-covered walls, decorated by the world’s best artists. The Barrio del Carmen neighborhood is also one of the city’s party arteries. Ready to lose yourself in the streets of Ciutat Vella?

  • The Albufera

The Albufera Natural Park encompasses this saltwater lake and the coastal strip that separates it from the sea. It is a favorite spot for tourists and locals alike, not only for its ecological richness—it is home to unique, endangered species of fish, such as the Samaruc and the Fartet—but also for the opportunity to enjoy boat trips on its waters.

Plus, its docks are the perfect place to enjoy the best sunsets in Valencia. Experience a dreamy evening! Fancy a boat ride around the Albufera?

  • The City of Arts and Sciences

Although for many it’s a monument to waste, this area of the Valencian capital has become the center of attention. Santiago Calatrava was the architect who transformed the old Turia River bed into six buildings and a bridge that have become icons of the city.

The complex is comprised of: L’Hemisfèric, a 3D digital cinema; the Principe Felipe Science Museum; L’Oceanogràfic, with seven distinct marine environments; the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, dedicated to artistic performances; the Ágora, which hosts events as diverse as the Tennis Open; and the Umbracle, an open-air garden that transforms into a nightclub on summer nights. Let the party begin!

  • Nursery Gardens

For many years, these gardens, along the river, have been considered the city’s green lung. Their years of history, dating back to the Muslim occupation, and their great sculptural and natural beauty make these gardens a must-see if you find yourself in the city of Valencia.

Don’t forget to visit these four places to enjoy the best corners of Valencia, and don’t forget to eat a good paella.
